Gajah Mina - Lingga Island

This animal skeleton was showed in Mini Linggam Cahaya Museum in Lingga Island. My first sight told me that this is a whale's skeleton. But locals called this animal  as ' Gajah Mina' which means 'Mina Elephant'. They believed this was as sea elephant (walrus) skeleton.  This skeleton was found stranded in Dugun beach after the big tsunami in Aceh, 13 January 2006.

Andhika Hermawan in his blog Gajah Mina - Sea Monster made good assumption for this animal skeleton. He thought this is one of the  whale skeleton and I agree with him.

It looks like black bumps floating in the sea surface, when this whale take a breath, so fishermen also think this is a sea monster.
This baleen whale may migrate through Riau Islands ocean.
Rudolph, et.al, Preliminary checklist of Cetacean in Indonesia Archipelago and adjacent waters, recorded several sightings of blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus and Bryde whale (B. edeni) at Malacca Straits. According to these facts, we can assume that one of this whale or other species still live around Riau Island's water.
This would be a profit for local government to use this animal existence as a part of tourists attraction.  They can combine their conservation as a part of their tourism marketing :)
